No matter what your persuasion, political, gender orientation, economic, professional, spiritual practice & beliefs, or any other of the dichotomies we humans have invented, these times have manifested, at least for me, strong undercurrents and overtones that are challenging to equilibrium.
So how can I/We successfully navigate these waters? Well, we can move in to reaction, anger, sadness, hopelessness, and apathy, or withdraw from the opportunities and changes in our worlds. We can spend all of our time ignoring the happenings of the world we are living in, or get swallowed up in angry protests whether for or against.
As a Scorpio born just past the Libra cusp, this search for balance has been an on ongoing journey. Scorpio’s have the trait of intensity – strong beliefs held and expressed, while the Libra’s trait is for balance, equilibrium, and the ability to see all sides of every story. The conflict in this is the blessing/curse that I can passionately advocate strongly for many sides causing confusion and emotional upheaval. An ongoing conversation lately is how do we maintain mental and emotional balance while still participating in the causes that we believe in, not sure that there is any easy answer.
Lately I’ve been attending a Course Of Miracles study group. Some of the wisdom from this group includes the suggestion to detach from outcomes, trusting that in the end all will be well. Even if it isn’t objectively true, in my experience, Acting As If, as my mentor Jack Canfield says, goes a long way to maintaining mental health. Meditators of many types posit that taking the time for a Present Moment, combined with a Gratitude focus, are ways to get (& stay) there. Journaling and allowing art to emerge, some literal, and some completely abstract helps give voice to some of the different voices.
As usual I can’t claim answers, only suggestions – we all need to experiment with what works best for ourselves.
